Although a lifetime passion, the designing of gardens is a second career for me. After being awarded a Master’s degree in Enology at the University of California, Davis, I worked in the wine industry as an enologist, assistant winemaker, and then a winemaker for 12 years. It wasn’t until I became a mother of three boys that I decided that the long hours of harvest and the need to be on site at the winery full time throughout the year got in the way of something else that had become important to me-- spending more time with my family. It was time for a career change, one that would both allow me to spend more time at home and give me the knowledge and expertise in a pursuit that I had grown to love by tinkering in my own garden.
By attending the University of California at Berkeley, where I received a Certificate in Garden Design, I was able to attend evening extension classes, taught by professional architects and landscape architects, while still spending the days in the garden with my growing boys.
Since 1997, I have been designing gardens large and small, from postage stamp condominium gardens to family gardens and large country homes.
